Micro Health Initiative (MHI) was founded in 2013 as a non-governmental organization (NGO) in Tanzania to bridge the gap in healthcare delivery for insured clients. MHI’s initial focus was on health microinsurance, aiming to ensure low- and middle-income earners could access quality healthcare services through affordable insurance solutions.
Since its inception, MHI has served over 100,000 individuals, empowering communities with better healthcare access and fostering financial protection for vulnerable families.
Over time, Micro Health Initiative (MHI) expanded its focus to include the development and implementation of Electronic Medical Records (EMR) systems, aiming to digitize healthcare services for greater efficiency and accessibility.
To date, MHI has successfully supported over 100 medical facilities in computerizing their operations. It has also forged key partnerships with banks, NHIF, Selcom, and the Ministry of Health (MOH) to ensure seamless integration of medical records with essential financial and healthcare services — enhancing both patient care and operational efficiency.
Micro Health Initiative (MHI) is proudly Tanzanian-owned, with its headquarters located in Shanty Town, Moshi. The organization is managed by a dedicated local leadership team, overseen by a credible and experienced Board of Governors.
MHI is officially recognized and accredited by key regulatory bodies, including Tanzania Revenue Authority (TRA), Tanzania Insurance Regulatory Authority (TIRA), Moshi Municipal Council, Minisstry of Social Services, gender & Eldery and the Ministry of Health, among others — ensuring transparency, compliance, and trust in all its operations.
